I've been around the neighborhood - - taking pictures of the construction of the new BPL system. These pictures were taken in February, 2007.
Note the installation of fiber optic line on utility poles. It is marked with yellow tags with the label "CURRENT OF TEXAS." The line is also marked "Draka Comteq Optical Cable DO-1LTC1A-012 Nov 06 12 F ESM 100528949." This connects to a metal box with connections to the service lines that supply 110v and 220v to customers. The system became operational for the remote reading of electric meters in June, 2007.
